A large and detailed map of Europe, first published in 1724, with the title in a fine rococo cartouche.
Although Europe was well mapped by this time, 'Brazil Rock' is still marked, just to the west of the French Prime Meridian: this is a vestige of the mythical 'Hy Brazil', an island once believed to rise from the Atlantic once every seven years.
